'Mauta' means death in Punjabi.

 

Mauta is a sonic journey and meditation on loss, grief, and collective amnesia written by Tara Rai, accompanied & produced by Alex Forster. 
 
After many years of composing music in solitude then losing her grandmother, Rai wanted to solidify her life long enquiry on death. Forster has been akin to a creative midwife, assisting Rai to push the boundaries of her vocal and melodic range, thus transforming her demos into a multi dimensional listening experience. The completion of the EP was a rigorous one year process that saw through the four seasons in Forster’s studio in South London, as well as the witnessing of a few unexpected losses, all masterfully woven into the 5 track journey that is Mauta:
