Tension/Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)

TRE stands for Tension/Trauma Releasing Exercises. It is a healing technique created by Dr. David Berceli who discovered whilst working in war zones that humans naturally shake to release stress from their body after experiencing overwhelm.

As a culture we have forgotten this primal, effective way of coming out of survival states such as fight/flight/freeze as we often see shaking as a sign of weakness. However, as many have discovered through TRE sessions, this technique deeply supports our bodies to feel lighter, connected and more resilient to life stressors.

How does TRE work?

We begin with 7 gentle grounding movements which activate specific muscle groups related to the body's "fight, flight, or freeze" response. This turns on a natural tremor response (just like animals) which helps the body release tension and calms the nervous system down.

Benefits

TRE can help reduce stress, anxiety, and body tension, as well as address symptoms of PTSD and other trauma-related issues including dissociation and chronic fatigue. It can improve sleep quality, reduce pain symptoms, aches and menstrual cramps, and increase overall emotional resilience and connection to the body.

Safety

TRE is considered a safe and effective technique, but it's important to start slow, especially if you have a history of trauma or other complex conditions. Consulting with a qualified TRE provider such as my self is highly recommended, especially for individuals with complex needs and histories. 
 
Who can benefit
 
TRE can be beneficial for individuals experiencing a wide range of challenges and symptoms, including stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, physical pain or tension and relationship difficulties. However, if you have high blood pressure, are under psychiatric care, have recently undergone surgery or are in your first trimester of pregnancy TRE is not for you for now.
