Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)

TRE stands for Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises. It is a technique designed by Dr. David Berceli who discovered whilst working in war zones that humans naturally shake or tremor involuntarily to release stress from the body after experiencing overwhelming situations which we may refer to as trauma.
As a culture we have forgotten this primal, effective way of coming out of stress states such as fight/flight/freeze as we see shaking as a sign of weakness, dangerous or a bit odd. However, as many of my clients have discovered through regular TRE sessions, this technique supports our bodies to feel lighter, freer and more resilient to the inevitable challenges of life. Not so weird after all!
I discovered this powerful tool over the pandemic and instantly decided to train in it for individuals who like me were seeking healing tools that safely and effectively reconnect the body/mind and release stored trauma without needing to analyse it.
How does TRE work?
The gentle grounding movements we begin with activate specific muscle groups, particularly those related to the body's "fight, flight, or freeze" response, which turn on a natural tremor response (just like animals) which can help the body release stored tension, stress and and calm the nervous system down.
Benefits
TRE can help reduce stress, anxiety, and body tension, as well as address symptoms of PTSD and other trauma-related issues including dissociation and chronic fatigue. It can improve sleep quality, reduce pain symptoms, aches and menstrual cramps, and increase overall emotional resilience and connection to the body.
Safety
TRE is considered a safe and effective technique, but it's important to start slow, especially if you have a history of trauma or other complex conditions. Consulting with a qualified TRE provider such as my self is highly recommended, especially for individuals with complex needs and histories.
Who can benefit
TRE can be beneficial for individuals experiencing a wide range of challenges and symptoms, including stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, physical pain, and relationship difficulties. However, if you have high blood pressure, are under psychiatric care, have recently undergone surgery or in first trimester of pregnancy,
TRE is not for you for now.
